Cityscape Etchings and Engravings
Knudsen began creating large cityscapes during the 1980s. Often times working during the day on his large cityscape oil paintings during the day and his etchings he would create in the evening. The process of etching the plate for the larger pieces often required more than a year and the artist would gradually work down the plate in about 6 inch horizontal sections down the plate.
Estate Editions
Thomas Cvikota is a contemporary art consultant, publisher and owner of ETC Industries - C. Editions. He was a student and friend of the artist and is the exclusive representative for the Knudsen prints.
Tom Cvikota and Estate Agent Michael Knudsen, son of the artist, recently printed new Estate Editions at Landfall Press, Inc. in Santa Fe, NM. Editions were signed and documented by Michael and Steven Campbell, Director and Senior Printer of Landfall. Considered some of John Knudsen’s best work the estate editions provide a new perspective as they have been reprinted using some of the finest intaglio presses in the country.
Early etchings/engravings
Knudsen received his Master of Fine Arts in Printmaking and Painting, Minor in Art History at the University of Iowa, Iowa City, Iowa in 1963. During this time he was inspired by the process of printmaking and the results of creating fine line and texture within his artwork. Mauricio Lasansky at the time was a world renowned professor of intaglio printmaking and this experience allowed Knudsen to master his technique in both etching and engraving.
